Hornets Basketball Falls at #5 Freed-Hardeman

HENDERSON, Tenn. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball fell 107-53 on Tuesday night at #5 Freed-Hardeman. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 1-4 while the Lions improve to 7-1 on the season.

A jumper by sophomore guard Umar Lawson (Sumter, S.C./Voorhees University) cut the deficit to 5-2. Two free throws by senior forward Jalen Watson (East St. Louis,/St. Louis Community College) cut the deficit to 7-4. A jumper by Watson cut the deficit to 8-6. A layup by junior guard Shamar Carter (Inglewood, Calif./Moberly Area CC) ended a brief 6-0 Lions run to cut the deficit to 14-8. A layup by Carter cut the deficit to 17-10 with just under 15 minutes to play in the first half. An old-fashioned three point play by freshman forward Nashawn Davis (St. Louis, Mo./Columbia College) cut the deficit to 19-13. A jumper by senior center Greg Wilson (Kansas City, Kan./Voorhees University) trimmed the Lions lead to 19-15. A 14-2 run by the Lions pushed their lead to 33-17. A layup by Davis trimmed the deficit to 35-20. A 12-4 run by the Lions opened their lead to 47-24. A jumper by Carter cut the Lions lead to 52-29. Senior forward Benjamin Rumanyika (Buckeye, Ariz./Voorhees University) recorded a layup to cut the deficit to 55-31 going into halftime.

A jumper by senior forward Ty Lampley (Belleville, Ill./Rend Lake Community College) cut the deficit to 55-33 early in the second half. The Lions would open the lead with a 17-0 run to push the lead to 72-33. A layup by sophomore guard Antonio Trotter (Nashville, Tenn./Williams Baptist University) cut the deficit to 74-36. A layup by Davis trimmed the Lions lead to 76-41. A 19-0 run by the Lions extended their lead to 95-41. A jumper by sophomore guard Esrom Tsegaye (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Christian) cut the deficit to 95-43. A layup by freshman guard Jacinth Prude (East St. Louis, Ill./Hazelwood Central) and a layup by Tsegaye cut the deficit to 103-49. Wilson would score the final four points for the Hornets.

Davis led the way with 14 points while Carter and Wilson added eight apiece. Carter and Wilson each recorded six rebounds. Trotter and junior guard Adolphus Cast (Detroit, Mich./Schoolcraft College) recorded two assists each. Carter, Lampley, Lawson and Davis all recorded a block. Carter, Cast, Davis and Lampley all recorded two steal.

The Hornets went 21-51 (41.2%) from the field, 0-10 from three and 11-26 (42.3%) from the free throw line.

The Hornets return to action on Saturday, November 22nd at Missouri S&T in Rolla, Mo. in an exhibition at 1 pm.
