Hornets Soccer Falls 1-0 to Ottawa in First Round of NAIA Tournament

COLUMBIA, Ky. - Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer fell 1-0 to Ottawa (Kan.) on Thursday afternoon at Parnell F Stadium hosted by Lindsey Wilson College in the first round of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics men's soccer tournament. The Hornets finish the season 10-7-3.

The Hornets defense held strong early as the Braves looked to push the Hornets. Sophomore midfielder Dusan Drca (Belgrade, Serbia/Hill Community College) appeared to have given the Hornets a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute as it was negated due to the Hornets being offside. Senior goalkeeper Matheus Pereira da Silva (Santo Andre, SP, Brazil/Columbia College) would keep the Braves from scoring as he would make a diving save to his right in the 17th minute. Pereira da Silva would once again keep the Braves from scoring as he denied a header in the 20th minute. Junior defender Leonardo El Ayache (Naples, Italy/University of Northwestern Ohio) would be denied a goal by the Braves keeper in the 21st minute. The Hornets and Braves would be tied at zero going into the half.

Junior forward Adefolarin Adigun (Colchester, England/Moulsham High School) would draw a foul in the box that gave the Hornets a penalty. Junior Antonio Bilancieri (Roccadaspide, Italy/Ranger College) would take the penalty kick and would hit the crossbar. In the 60th minute, Bilancieri would have a chance from distance as his shot went high. The Braves would earn a free kick in the 78th minute and the cross in the box would find a Braves player as he would score to make it 1-0 Braves. Sophomore defender Nicholas Wingren (Palma, Mallorca, Spain/IES s'Arenal) would take a shot from distance and be saved by the keeper of the Braves.

The Braves held a 16-4 advantage in shots, 4-2 in shots on goal and 8-2 in corner kicks.
