ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball picked up a 72-49 win over Simmons College of Kentucky on Monday night at Emerson Performance Center. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 1-5 on the season while the Falcons fall to 3-4 on the season.

Jayla Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) tied the game at five. On the very next possession Jackson would knock down another triple to give the Lady Hornets an 8-6 lead. Two free throws by sophomore guard
Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) would put an end to a 7-0 Falcons run to cut the deficit to 13-10. Two more free throw by Montgomery cut the deficit to 13-12. A jumper by senior guard
Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) would cut the deficit to 16-14 going into the second quarter.

Jayla Dixon gave the Lady Hornets an 18-16 lead early in the second quarter. A jumper by senior forward
J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) toed the game at 20. A 14-0 run by the Lady Hornets saw the first ten scored by Montgomery with two threes, a jumper and a layup, a jumper from Dilosa and a jumper from Dixon gave the Lady Hornets a 34-20 lead. A layup by Dilosa pushed the lead to 36-24 late in the first half as the Lady Hornets would carry the 12-point lead into halftime.
A jumper by Dilosa gave the Lady Hornets a 38-24 lead early in the third quarter. A three by Jackson would push the lead to 43-28. A three by Montgomery pushed the lead to 46-28 with just under five minutes to play in the third. A layup by Montgomery extended the lead to 49-32. A jumper by junior
Janiya Jones extended the lead to 51-35. A three by Montgomery pushed the lead to 54-39 before the Lady Hornets held a 54-42 lead going into the fourth quarter.
A three by Montgomery less than a minute into the fourth quarter pushed the lead to 57-42. A layup by Jordan and a layup by Dilosa extended the lead to 61-45. A layup by senior forward
Marchi Hunter (Menifee, Calif./Vista del Lago) and a jumper by Jordan extended the lead to 65-46. A layup by Montgomery and a jumper by Jordan pushed the lead to 69-46. A three by sophomore guard Janiya Brwon (St. Louis, Mo./Jennings) pushed the lead to 72-47. The Lady Hornets would end with a 72-49 win.
The Lady Hornets defense held the Falcons to just eight points in the second quarter and seven points in the first quarter. The Lady Hornets held the Falcons scoreless for the first three minutes in the second quarter and for the first two minutes in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Hornets went 28-57 (49.1%) from the field, 9-23 (39.1%) from three and 7-13 (53.8%) from the free throw line. The Lady Hornets 28 made field goals was tied for the most in a game this season while their .491 field goal percentage was their highest in a game in this season. The nine made threes and .391 percent from three were both the highest in a game.
Montgomery led the way with 30 points while Dilosa added 13. Jordan recorded a season-high 11 rebounds and seven blocks. Dilosa recorded a season-high seven assists and four steals.
The Lady Hornets also had their most assists in a game (17), most steals (10), tied for the most blocks (8). The 72 points was the second-highest scoring total in a game this season.Montgomery tied Dilosa for most made threes in a game this season with five. Jordan recorded the most rebounds (11) and blocks (7) in a game. Dilosa recorded the most assists (7) and steals (4) in a game this season.
The Lady Hornets return to action on Wednesday, December 3rd in an exhibition game at Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau, Mo. with tipoff set for 6:30 pm.
