WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer earned a 3-2 win over #2 seed Williams Baptist in the American Midwest Conference Tournament semifinal on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets improve to 9-6-3 on the season while the Eagles finish the season 7-8-2.
The Hornets advance to the championship for the fourth time in program history and their first time since 2021.
Senior forward
Kyle Nicholls (Norwich, England/Mineral Area College) would have a chance to give the Hornets an early lead as his shot missed wide. Senior goalkeeper
Matheus Pereira da Silva (Santo Andre, SP, Brazil/Columbia College) would deny the Eagles a goal in the 19th minute. Just over a minute later senior midfielder
Leonardo Mori (Castel d'Azzano/Liceo Galileo Galilei) would find sophomore forward
Samuel Guerrero (Santiago, Chille/South Kent School) as Guerrero put the Hornets up 1-0 in the 20th minute. Senior forward
Mario De La Fuente (Madrid, Spain/Mid America Christian University) would find Mori as Mori would extend the lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute. De La Fuente would find the back of the net in the 36th minute to extend the Hornets lead to 3-0. Pereira da Silva would keep the Eagles off the board with a save in the 36th minute. De La Fuente would be denied his second goal of the match in the 37th minute. Pereira da Silva would make two saves in the 40th minute to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard. The Hornets would take a 3-0 lead into the half.
Pereira da Silva would deny the Eagles header early in the second half to keep it 3-0 Hornets. Pereira da Silva would keep the Eagles from scoring once again in the 51st minute. The Eagles would cut the deficit to 3-1 in the 57th minute. Senior midfielder

Djordje Stankovic (Belgrade, Serbia/Bethel University) would be denied a goal in the 71st minute. The Eagles would cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 72nd minute as Pereira da Silva would make the save on the penalty kick attempt as the rebound would allow the Eagles to score. De La Fuente would be denied in the 77th minute by the keeper. De La Fuente would have another chance to extend the lead as his shot would be stopped. Pereira da Silva's two biggest saves came in the final 15 seconds as he would make two diving saves to keep the Eagles from scoring the equalizer.Â
Guerrero would score his fourth goal of the season. Mori would score his third goal of the season and record his seventh assist of the season. De La Fuente would score his eighth goal of the season and record his first assist of the season. Pereira da Silva would record 10 saves in goal.Â
The Eagles held a 23-16 advantage in shots, 12-8 in shots on goal and 8-1 in corner kicks.
The Hornets return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 11 in the AMC Tournament Championship at #1 seed Columbia at 6 pm.
