Lady Hornets Basketball Falls in Hard Fought Game at Central Baptist

CONWAY, Ark. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball falls 86-82 at Central Baptist College on Thursday night. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 2-6 on the season and 1-1 in American Midwest Conference play while the Mustangs improve to 4-6 on the season and 1-1 in AMC play.

A layup by senior forward Marchi Hunter (Menifee, Calif./Vista del Lago) to cut the Mustangs lead to 3-2. An 8-0 Mustangs run was halted by a layup from sophomore guard Jayla Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) to cut the deficit to 11-4. Sophomore guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) would score the next five points with two layups and a free throw to cut the deficit to 17-9. A jumper by senior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) cut the deficit to 20-11. A jumper by Dilosa cut the deficit to 24-16 late in the first quarter. A layup by senior guard Taeyana Davis (St. Louis, Mo./Soldan/Southeastern CC) and a layup by Montgomery cut the deficit to 27-20 at the end of the first quarter.

A jumper by senior Jayla Dixon cut the deficit to 30-22. A three by Dilosa, a jumper by Montgomery, a layup and a jumper by senior Janiya Jones, a jumper by senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central), a free throw by Dixon and another jumper by Jordan would see the Lady Hornets turn a 33-22 deficit into a 36-33 lead. The Mustangs would close the second quarter with a 7-0 to take a 40-38 lead into halftime.

A layup by Montgomery and a three by Dilosa would give the Lady Hornets a 43-40 lead early in the third quarter. A layup and a free throw by Dilosa and a jumper by Jordan extended the lead to 48-42. A layup by Dixon extended the lead to 50-44. A layup by Montgomery pushed the lead to 52-46. A three by Jackson extended the lead to 55-48. A layup by Montgomery pushed the lead to 60-50. The Mustangs would close the third quarter on a 7-2 run to close the gap to 62-57 in favor of the Lady Hornets.

A layup by Jones, a jumper by Montgomery and two free throws by Dilosa pushed the lead to 68-57. A free throw by Davis pushed the lead to 71-62. A three by Dilosa extended the lead to 74-64. A layup by Jones pushed the lead to 76-66. A 13-3 run by the Mustangs tied the game at 79 with just over two minutes to play. A layup by Montgomery gave the Lady Hornets an 82-81 lead before the Mustangs closed on a 5-0 run to take the 86-82 win.

Montgomery led the way with a game-high 26 points while Dilosa added 18, Jones added 12 and Dixon added 10. Dixon recorded 10 rebounds to record her first double-double of the season. Montgomery would dish out five assists. Hunter would record three blocks and Dilosa would record three steals.

The Lady Hornets went 34-72 (47.2%) from the field, 4-12 (33.3%) from three and 10-18 (55.6%) from the free throw line. The 82 points scored was a season-high for the Lady Hornets along with season-highs in field goals made (34), field goals attempted (72) and rebounds (49).

The Lady Hornets return to action on Sunday, December 14th at 3:30 pm in an exhibition game at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in Edwardsville, Ill. The Lady Hornets resume AMC play on Tuesday, January 6th at 5:30 pm against Stephens College at Emerson Performance Center.
