ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball picked an exciting 92-88 overtime win over NCAA Division II Maryville University on Tuesday night. With the win, the Hornets improve to 3-10 on the season while the Saints fall to 1-9 on the season.

Adolphus Cast (Detroit, Mich./Schoolcraft College) cut the deficit to 12-7 with just under 15 minutes to play in the first half. A three from senior forward
Ty Lampley (Belleville, Ill./Rend Lake Community College) cut the deficit to 12-10. The Saints would use an 8-0 run to push their to 20-10. A layup by sophomore guard
Umar Lawson (Sumter, S.C./Voorhees University) cut the deficit to 20-12. Two free throws from freshman forward
Nashawn Davis (St. Louis, Mo./Columbia College) cut the deficit to 21-14 with 11:32 to play in the first half. A jumper from Lampley a layup from Cast and a dunk by Davis cut the deficit to 26-20 with 8:28 to play in the first half. Two free throws by Davis and a layup by Watson cut the deficit to 28-24.
Back-to-back buckets from Lawson cut the deficit to 31-29. A layup from sophomore guard
Antonio Trotter (Nashville, Tenn./Williams Baptist University), a jumper by Carter and a dunk by Lawson gave the Hornets their first lead at 35-33. A layup by Lawson would give the Hornets a 37-35 lead. The Hornets and Saints would be tied at 37 going to the half.
The Saints would start the second half on a 4-0 run to take a 41-37 lead. A three from Carter cut the Saints lead to 41-40. Two free throws from Davis cut the deficit to 46-42. Two free throws from Lampley and a layup from Lawson tied the game at 46 with 15:44 left in the second half. A layup by Lampley cut the deficit to 49-48. A layup and a free throw by Lawson cut the deficit to 55-51. A three by Carter cut the deficit to 58-54. A layup by senior center
Dimitrije Stojanovic (Nis, Serbia/Bethel University) cut the deficit to 60-57 with 9:05 to play. A layup and a free throw by Carter would give the Hornets a 61-60 lead. A jumper by Lawson cut the deficit to 65-63. A layup by senior center
Greg Wilson (Kansas City, Kan./Voorhees University) cut the Saints lead to 71-67 with 4:02 to play in the second half. A three by Trotter cut the deficit to 73-70. A layup by Davis, a free throw by Cast, a layup by Davis and a layup by Lawson would complete the 7-0 run over the final 1:36 to tie the game at 77 and force overtime.
A layup by Lawson gave the Hornets a 79-77 lead. A layup by Davis put the Hornets on top 81-79. Two free throws by Davis gave the Hornets an 83-81 lead with 2:29 left in overtime. Four free throws by Cast extended the Hornets lead to 87-81. Two free throws by Carter extended the lead to 89-83. Two free throws by Davis and a free throw by Carter pushed the lead to 92-85 before the Hornets held on for a 92-88 win.
Davis and Lawson recorded 21 points apiece while Carter added 16 and Cast added 11. Carter led the way with eight rebounds. Davis would add five assists. Davis would also record four steals. Carter recorded three blocks.
The Hornets went 30-70 (42.9%) from the field, 4-18 (22.2%) from three and 28-35 (80.0%) from the charity stripe. The 28 free throws made was a season-high for the Hornets. The 35 free throw attempts are tied for the most in a game this season for the Hornets. The Hornets also recorded season-highs in rebounds (44) and assists (19).
The three blocks by Carter is tied for most in a game by a Hornet. The four steals by Davis are tied for the most in a game by a Hornet and Davis's 13 made free throws and 16 free throw attempts are the most by a Hornet in a game.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday, December 20th at 1 pm in an exhibition at Lindenwood in St. Charles. The Hornets resume American Midwest Conference play on Thursday, January 8th at Mission University in Springfield, Mo. with tip off set for 7:30 pm.
