Men's Basketball Second Half Comeback Falls Short

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball second half comeback falls short as Mission picks up 84-80 win on Thursday night. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 7-18 on the season and 4-13 in American Midwest Conference while the Patriots improve to 8-16 on the season and 6-11in AMC play.

Junior forward Ty Lampley (Belleville, Ill./Rend Lake Community College) got the scoring started with a three. Mission would respond with a 7-0 run to take a 7-3 lead. A jumper from senior guard Seth Chargois (Tulsa, Okla./Johnson Community College) cut the deficit to 7-5 with a jumper. A layup from senior guard Bennie Amos III (New Orleans, La./Delgado Community College) cut the Patriots lead to 10-7. A jumper from Chargois cut the deficit to 11-9. A jumper from junior guard Justin Edwards (Corona, Calif./Oakwood University) and a layup fro Chargois cut the deficit 14-13. A three from Amos III put the Hornets up 16-14.

A jumper from senior forward Jermarco Burse (Annapolis, Mo./Truman State University) extended the lead to 18-14. A three from senior forward Keondre Brown (Los Angeles, Calif./Grandview University) made it 22-17 Hornets. A layup from Chargois pushed the lead to 26-17. Amos III would make it 28-22 with a jumper. A jumper from senior guard Kevin Jones (Sikeston, Mo./Dakota State University) made it 30-26 Hornets. The Patriots would respond with a 7-0 run to take a 33-30 lead. Amos III would cut it to 33-32 Patriots with a layup. A layup from Amos III would cut the deficit to 43-37 going into the half.

A three from Amos III cut the deficit to 46-40. Two free throws from Chargois and a three from Amos III cut the deficit to 48-45. A 7-0 run by the Patriots pushed their lead to 55-45. A jumper and dunk from Chargois and a jumper from Lampley cut the Patriots lead to 55-51. A three from Burse cut the Patriots lead to 57-54. A three from Amos III cut the deficit to 59-57. A jumper from Lampley cut it to 63-61 Patriots with 7:51 left to play. A three from Amos III cut the Patriots lead to 71-66. A three from Amos III cut the deficit to 75-69. Three free throws from Chargois and a three from Burse cut the Patriots lead to 83-78. A layup from Lampley closed the scoring as the Patriots held on for an 84-80 win.

Amos III led the way with 28 points while Chargois added 23 and Lampley and Burse added 11 a piece. Lampley led with nine rebounds. Burse added five assists. Lampley and Brown each recorded a block. Chargois and Lampley recorded four steals each.

The Hornets went 30-75 (40%) from the field, 10-29 (34.5%) from three and 10-12 (83.3%) from the free throw line. 

The Hornets return to action on Saturday, February 22nd at 1 pm against the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy at Emerson Performance Center. Saturday will be senior day. Senior day will take place after the women's game and before the men's game.
