Lady Hornets Basketball Picks Up 72-61 Win at Central Baptist

Box Score CONWAY, Ark. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball picks up a 72-61 win at Central Baptist on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 6-16 on the season and 5-12 in American Midwest Conference play while the Lady Mustangs fall to 9-12 on the season and 7-10 in AMC play.

After trailing 4-0 early two layups from senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) tied the game at four. Two free throw from junior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) made it 6-4 Lady Hornets. A layup from freshman guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) made it 8-7 Harris-Stowe. A jumper from senior guard Samara Swire (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) extended the lead to 10-7. A jumper from freshman forward Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) made it 12-10 Lady Hornets. A three from Dilosa made it 15-12 before a 4-0 run by the Lady Mustangs gave Central Baptist a 16-15 lead after one quarter.

A layup by Davis and a three from Montgomery gave the Lady Hornets a 20-16 lead early in the second quarter. A jumper from Montgomery extended the lead to 22-18. A three from Dilosa made it 25-20 Lady Hornets. A three from senior guard Lauryn Evans (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) and a jumper from senior forward Toree Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) gave the Lady Hornets a 31-26 lead. A jumper from Montgomery extended the lead to 37-31. Swire would make two free throws as the Lady Hornets lead 39-31 at the half.

A three from Swire to open the third quarter extended the Lady Hornets lead to 42-31. A layup and three from Montgomery pushed the lead to 47-33. A layup from Dilosa and a three from SwireĀ gave the Lady Hornets their biggest lead at 52-33. A four point play from Dilosa made it 56-38. A layup from Jordan extended the lead to 58-40. The Lady Hornets led 58-42 after three.

A layup from Davis made it 62-46 Lady Hornets. Two free throws from Jackson pushed the lead to 66-50. A layup from Jordan made it 70-56. A jumper from Montgomery closed the scoring for the Lady Hornets before the Lady Hornets closed out the 72-61 win.

Swire led the way with 18 points while Montgomery added 16, Dilosa added 14 and Jordan added 11. Jordan and Jackson each had six rebounds. Montgomery added seven assists in the game. Jackson and Jordan each had three blocks. Jordan and Montgomery each had three steals.

The Lady Hornets went 27-55 (49.1%) from the field, 9-17 (52.9%) from three and 9-11 (81.8%) at the free throw line. The 49.1% from the field and 52.9% from three were season-bests.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Tuesday, February 11th at 5:30 pm against Missouri Baptist at Emerson Performance Center. Tuesday's theme will be Greek/Black Out.
