Lady Hornets Fall in Doubleheader at Mission

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University softball fell 17-2 in game one and 20-7 in game two on Friday afternoon at Mission. With the losses, the Lady Hornets fall to 1-21 on the season and 0-8 in American Midwest Conference play while the Patriots improve to 6-20 on the season and 2-4 in AMC play.

In game one, freshman infielder Michaela Thomas (Fort Pierce, Fla./Fort Pierce Westwood Academy) reach on a double to left. Freshman catcher Jaden Crenshaw (Killeen, Texas/Robert M. Shoemaker) reached on an error that scored Thomas to give the Lady Hornets a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Patriots scored six runs in the first, three in the second, five in the third to take a 14-1 lead. Sophomore infielder Gracie Schmitte (San Diego, Calif./Mar Vista) walked to start the fourth. Freshman infielder Jadia Phillips (Maryland Heights, Mo./Pattonville) walked. Junior outfielder Juanesha Washington (St. Louis, Mo./Carnahan) singled to score Schmitte to make it 14-2. The Patriots added three more in the fourth to extend their lead to 17-2.

Thomas, Washington, and freshman catcher Brianna Huff (Columbus, Ohio/Private Tree of Life Christian College Preparatory) all recorded a hit.

In game two, Huff reached on an error to start the game. Thomas hit into a fielder's choice. Crenshaw singled to score Thomas to make it 1-0 Lady Hornets. Crenshaw would score on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 Lady Hornets in the top of the first. The Patriots scored eight runs in the first to take an 8-2 lead after one.

Senior infielder Christal Smith (Jacksonville, Fla./Terry Parker) would reach on an error to start the second. Washington would walk. Huff singled home Smith. Senior infielder Morgan Nettles (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) walked to load the bases. Thomas would clear the bases to cut it to 8-6. Crenshaw singled home Thomas to make it 8-7 Patriots.

The Patriots scored six runs in the second and third to take a 20-7 lead.

Crenshaw led the way with two hits, while Huff and Thomas added one hit each. Thomas recorded three runs batted in while Huff and Crenshaw each had one.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, March 29th at 12 and 2 pm at Central Baptist in Conway, Ark.
