SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. - Harris-Stowe State University softball falls 12-0 in game one and 11-3 in game two against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods on Tuesday afternoon. With the losses, the Lady Hornets fall to 0-8 on the season while the Pomeroys improve to 4-2.
In game one, the Pomeroys scored two runs in the first and second innings and eight in the fourth. Junior outfielder
Juanesha Washington (St. Louis, Mo./Carnahan) and senior outfielder Lyric McGilbery (Orlando, Fla./St. Charles CC) each recorded a hit in the game.
In a game two, a one out single from senior infielder
Christal Smith (Jacksonville, Fla./Terry Parker), a fielder's choice from freshman catcher
Jaden Crenshaw (Killeen, Texas/Robert M. Shoemaker), a walk to senior pitcher
Naliya Anderson (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) would bring up freshman infielder
Michaela Thomas (Fort Pierce, Fla./Fort Pierce Westwood Academy) would double in Crenshaw to make it 1-0 Lady Hornets. The Pomeroys would tie the game at one in the bottom of the second.
A one out single by Smith would start the rally in the top of the third. A stolen base by Smith and a walk to Anderson would give the Lady Hornets runners on first and second. A double by Thomas scored smith and moved Anderson to third. A single by freshman catcher
Brianna Huff (Columbus, Ohio/Private Tree of Life Christian College Prep) would score Anderson to make it 3-1. The Pomeroys would take 6-3 lead after scoring five times in the third. The Pomeroys would add two in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Smith and Thomas each recorded two hits while Huff added one. Thomas had two runs batted in while Huff had one.
The Lady Hornets return to action on Friday, March 7th at 4 and 6 pm against Principia College in Elsah, Ill.
