MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Harris-Stowe State University softball fell 17-0 in game one and 16-7 in game two on Tuesday afternoon at LeMoyne-Owen. With the losses, the Lady Hornets conclude the season with a 1-41 record while the Magicians improve to 9-21 on the season.
In game one, the Magicians scored seven runs in the first, one in the second, three in the third and six in the fourth. Â
Freshman catcher
Brianna Huff (Columbus, Ohio/Private Tree of Life Christian College Preparatory) led the way with two hits while freshman infielder
Jadia Phillips (Maryland Heights, Mo./Pattonville), freshman infielder
Michaela Thomas (Fort Pierce, Fla./Fort Pierce Westwood Academy), senior outfielder
Lyric McGilberry (Orlando, Fla./St. Charles Community College) and sophomore infielder
Gracie Schmitte (San Diego, Calif./Mar Vista) all added a hit.
In game two, Huff singled and stole second to start the game. Freshman catcher
Jaden Crenshaw (Killeen, Texas/Robert M. Shoemaker) singled to right to score Huff to give the Lady Hornets an early 1-0 lead. The Magicians would tie it in the bottom of the second.
In the top of the third, freshman infielder
Nichelle Davis (St. Louis, Mo./Jennings) singled to start the inning. Senior outfielder
Morgan Nettles (St. Louis, Mo.) singled. Crenshaw singled home Nettles with two outs to make it 2-1. A Thomas single scored Phillips. McGilberry reached on an error that allowed Crenshaw to score to make it 4-1. Thomas scored on a wild pitch. Schmitte singled to right to score McGilberry to finish the scoring for the Lady Hornets in the third as they held a 6-1 lead.
A 13 run bottom of the third put the Magicians on top 14-6. They would add two more in the fourth.
McGilberry started the fifth with a single and stole second. After back-to-back walks the bases would be loaded. Nettles would single to right with two outs to score Schmitte to make it 16-7 Magicians.
Crenshaw and Nettles each recorded two hits while Huff, Thomas, McGilberry, Schmitte, Davis and junior outfielder
Juanesha Washington (St. Louis, Mo./Carnahan) all recorded a hit. Crenshaw also added two runs batted in.
The Lady Hornets will return to action in 2026.
