HENDERSON, Tenn. - Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer picked up a 1-0 win Tuesday evening over Freed-Hardeman University at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 1-0-1 on the season while the Lions fall to 0-2-1. For the second consecutive the Lady Hornets have beat the Lions.
Junior forward
Julia Tofane (Montes Claros, MG, Brazil/Central Wyoming CC) was once again in goal for the Lady Hornets and would make a save in the 26th minute to keep the game 0-0. In the 31st minute, sophomore midfielder
Emma Auer (Kindberg, Austria/HIB Liebenau) would be turned away. Just over a minute later freshman forward
Sherasade Meghezi (Paris, France) would be turned away by the Lions keeper. I
n the 42nd minute, junior midfielderÂ
Katharina Salomon (Vienna, Austria/HLTW Bergheidengasse) would find the back of the net to get the Lady Hornets a 1-0 lead going into the half.
Salomon would be denied her second goal of the game in the 52nd minute as the Lions keeper made the save. Tofane would keep the Lady Hornets ahead 1-0 with a save in the 53rd minute. Auer would be denied again in the 63rd minute as her shot to the top right corner of the goal would be saved.
Harris-Stowe would record a season-high 10 shots while out shooting the Lions 10-4. The Lady Hornets also recorded five shots on goal which was also a season-high. The Lady Hornets held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, August 30th at 7:30 pm at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo.
