Lady Hornets Soccer Falls 3-2 in Hard Fought Match at Brescia

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer fell 3-2 at Brescia (Ky.) on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 2-3-2 on the season while the Bearcats improve to 3-2 on the season.

Junior midfielder Katharina Salomon (Vienna, Austria/HLTW Bergheidengasse) had a chance to give the Lady Hornets the lead three minutes into the match as her shot would be saved by the keeper. A long pass from sophomore defender Emma Auer (Kindberg, Austria/HIB Liebenau) would find the foot of junior defender Moenesa Mejias (Trinidad, Trinidad and Tobago/Lewis and Clark CC) and tapped in past the keeper to give the Lady Hornets a 1-0 lead seven minutes in. 

The Bearcats would tie the game in the 11th minute. After the Lady Hornets earned a free kick, junior defender Luka Gorogranz (Berlin, Germany/Dodge City CC) would send the ball into the box and be deflected off of Auer to the foot of Salomon as she would not be denied her second goal of the season as Salomon's goal would make it 2-1 Lady Hornets in the 27th minute.

Senior midfielder Alexandra Forcelius (Curitiba, Brazil/TecPuc/SWIC) would keep the Lady Hornets ahead in the 28th minute. The Bearcats would tie the game in the 42nd minute as the game went into halftime tied at 2-2.

Freshman forward Sherasade Meghezi (Paris, France) would be denied her fourth goal of the season by the Bearcats keeper less than a minute into the second half. Forcelius would keep the game tied with saves in the 47th and 52nd minutes. Mejias missed her second goal of the game as her shot went over the crossbar in the 62nd minute. The Bearcats would take a 3-2 lead in the 64th minute. Forcelius and Gorogranz would keep the deficit at one and gave the Lady Hornets a chance and in the 86th minute freshman forward Aniyah Rowe (Kansas City, Mo.) had a chance to tie the game as the Bearcats keeper kept it out of the net.

Salomon and Moejias each tallied their second goal of the season. Auer recorded two assists and Gorogranz record an assist as well. Forcelius made seven saves and Gorogranz kept one out of the net as well.

The Bearcats held a 19-8 advantage in shots, 11-5 in shots on goal and 7-2 in corner kicks.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Friday, September 12th at 5 pm against Lincoln University at Lou Fusz Athletic Complex Field #10.
