Late Goal Helps Women's Soccer Earn 2-2 Draw at Missouri Baptist

CREVE COEUR, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer earned a 2-2 draw with a late goal on Tuesday night at Missouri Baptist. With the draw, the Lady Hornets are now 1-1-2 on the season while the Spartans are 0-3-1 on the season.

Junior defender Moenese Mejias (Trinidad, Trinidad and Tobago/Lewis and Clark CC) was in goal once again and was tested early making a save in the 13th minute. Senior forward Keysli Elias-Gonzalez (Carthage, MO/Carthage/Coffeyville CC) would have a chance in the 17th minute, but would get her shot blocked.

Mejias would record another save in the 18th minute and in the 26th minute to keep the game at 0-0. The game would remain tied at the half.

Mejias would keep the game tied with a save in the 48th minute and in the 55th minute. Freshman midfielder Aniyah Rowe (Kansas City, Mo.) nearly gave the Lady Hornets the lead in the 59th minute as took the shot from the right side of the field and missed to the right of the near-side post. Just over a minute later Rowe would draw a foul that lead to a Lady Hornets free kick from 22 yards out. Junior defender Luka Gorogranz (Berlin, Germany/Dodge City CC) would score on the free kick after it deflected off the Spartans keeper's hands into the top left corner of the goal.

Rowe had a chance to make it 2-0 in the 68th minute, but would get turned away by the Spartans keeper. The Spartans would tie the game in the 75th minute. In the 78th minute, the Spartans would take the lead off of an own goal. 

The Lady Hornets would earn a free kick late in the game from 35 yards out. After the ball was deflected it landed at the foot of sophomore defender Emma Auer (Kindberg, Austria/HIB Liebenau) as she would bury the shot to tie the game at two in the 82nd minute.Mejias would make another save in the 86th minute and the 89th minute to keep the game tied.

The Spartans would hold a 16-7 advantage in shots, 9-3 in shots on goal. The Lady Hornets would hold a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks. Auer and Gorogranz would score their first goals of the season and Mejias would make seven saves.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Friday, September 5th at 3:30 pm at NCAA Division III Greenville University in Greenville, Ill.
