Lady Hornets Volleyball Falls to Crowley's Ridge

Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's volleyball fell in three sets (14-25, 15-25, 22-25) on Friday night at Emerson Performance Center against Crowley's Ridge College. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 5-9 on the season and 3-3 in American Midwest Conference play while the Pioneers improve to 5-12 on the season and 4-0 in AMC play.

A kill by junior right side Trinity Edison (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Central) tied set one at one. The Pioneers would use an 8-1 run to take a 9-2 lead and force a Lady Hornets timeout. A kill by junior outside hitter Kyla McReynolds (O'Fallon, Ill./Althoff Catholic) cut the deficit to 9-3. A kill by McReynolds cut the deficit to 10-4. A kill by senior outside hitter A'nyla Watson (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock North) and a block by Watson and sophomore middle hitter Jehireh Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Althoff Catholic) cut the deficit to 12-6. A block by Watson and Williams cut the deficit to 17-7. A kill by Williams cut the deficit to 21-10. A block by junior middle hitter Saniah Files (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) cut the Pioneers lead to 23-14. The Pioneers would take set one 25-14.

A kill by Files made it 5-3 Lady Hornets in set two. A 10-2 run by the Pioneers gave them a 13-7 lead. A kill by freshman outside hitter Renise Powell cut the deficit to 17-11. A kill by Edison cut the deficit to 18-14. The Pioneers closed set two on a 7-2 run to win the set 25-16.

A service ace by freshman defensive specialist Mya Hendrix tied set three at three. A kill by Edison and a block by Files made it 5-4 Lady Hornets. Kills from Powell and Watson helped the Lady Hornets take a 10-9 lead. A service ace by junior defensive specialist Alexis Kemp (Kansas City, Mo./University Academy) cut the deficit to 15-13. A kill by McReynolds tied the set at 16. A kill by McReynolds tied the set at 20. A kill by Watson cut the deficit to 24-22 before the Pioneers closed out the match on the next point.

Edison led the way with six kills, junior setter Isa Smith (Little Rock, Ark./Joe T. Robinson) recorded 11 assists, junior defensive specialist Dejah Foster (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) recorded 11 digs, McReynolds, Kemp, and Hendrix all recorded one service ace each, Files recorded two solo blocks while Watson and Williams had two block assists.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, September 27th at 12 pm against Williams Baptist University in AMC play at Emerson Performance Center. Tomorrow's theme is rodeo.
