Meghezi Nets Two as Lady Hornets Earn 3-1 Win against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer earned a 3-1 win against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods on Sunday afternoon at Cardinal Ritter High School. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 2-2-2 on the season while the Pomeroys fall to 0-4-1 on the season.

The three goals were a season high for the Lady Hornets.

Junior defender Moenesa Mejias (Trinidad, Trinidad and Tobago/Lewis and Clark CC) would have the first scoring chance for the Lady Hornets in the 17th minute, but would miss wide of the net. Freshman midfielder Aniyah Rowe (Kansas City, Mo.) would be turned away in the 21st minute by the Pomeroys keeper. Mejias would get another chance to find the back of the net with a header, but would miss wide. 

Junior forward Julila Tofane (Montes Claros, MG, Brazil/Central Wyoming CC) would miss wide with her header in the 26th minute. A crossing pass from junior defender Luka Gorogranz (Berlin, Germany/Dodge City CC) would find Mejias as she would find the net with a header in the 37th minute to make it 1-0 Lady Hornets. Junior midfielder Alexandra Forcelius (Curitiba, Brazil/TecPuc/SWIC) was in net once again and would keep the game 1-0 in the 43rd minute with a save. The Lady Hornets would take a 1-0 lead into the half.

Sophomore defender Emma Auer (Kindberg, Austria/HIB Liebenau) had a chance to put the Lady Hornets up 2-0 in the 57th minute, but the keeper for the Pomeroys would deny Auer. The Pomeroys would tie the game in the 60th minute thanks to an own goal.

Mejias would be denied by the keeper of the Pomeroys in the 63rd minute. Freshman forward Sherasade Meghezi (Paris, France) would get past the Pomeroys defender and sent the shot off the keeper's hands that bounced into the net to put the Lady Hornets up 2-1 in the 65th minute. Gorogranz would be saved on her shot attempt in the 75th minute. 

Junior midfielder Katharina Salomon (Vienna, Austria/HLTW Bergheidengasse) would block a Pomeroys pass that would find the foot of Meghezi. A pass by Meghezi over to Salomon would lead to a long stretch pass by Salomon back to Meghezi for Meghezi's second goal of the game and third of the season in the 84th minute. 

The Lady Hornets would hold an 18-2 advantage in shots, 9-2 in shots on goal and 10-1 in corner kicks.

The Hornets return to action on Wednesday, September 10th at 3 pm at Brescia in Owensboro, Ky.
