SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University baseball fell 13-3 in seven innings at Mission University on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in American Midwest Conference play while the Patriots improve to 12-13 on the season and 1-0 in AMC play.
Junior leftfielder Alexander Fernandez (Caracas, Venezuela) started the game with a single and then stole second. Senior rightfielder Tashaun Coleman (Indianapolis, Ind.) singled to center. The Hornets were unable to score in the top of the first after having runners on first and second.
The game would remain scoreless until the top of the third. Sophomore centerfielder Adrian Martinez (Davie, Fla.) reached on an infield single to start the third. Fernandez reached on an error by the first baseman. Junior shortstop Felix Daclan (Modesto, Calif.) reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Coleman would hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Martinez. Junior first baseman Brayden Hatley (St. Louis, Mo.) would score Fernandez and Daclan on an error to make it 3-0 Hornets.
The Patriots would score five in the bottom of the third, one in the fifth and sixth and six in the seventh.
Fernandez and Waters both recorded three hits while Daclan and Martinez added two hits. Fernandez, Daclan and Martinez all scored a run. Hatley recorded two runs batted in. Daclan recorded two stolen bases,
The Hornets return to action on Saturday, March 7th at Mission University in Springfield, Mo. at 12 and 2:30 pm.
