Hornets Baseball Falls at Central Baptist


CONWAY, Ark. - Harris-Stowe State University baseball fell 9-0 on Saturday evening at Central Baptist College. With the loss, the Hornets are 3-25 on the season and 1-19 in American Midwest Conference play while the Mustangs are 29-19 on the season and 14-7 in AMC play.

 

The Mustangs would score one run in the first inning. Senior first baseman Logan Schwerdt (Saint Peter's, Mo.) would reach on a single in the second. Junior first baseman Carter Henderson (San Diego, Calif.) would reach on an error, but the Hornets were unable to push across the tying run.

 

The Mustangs extended their lead to 8-0 by scoring two runs in the second and five in the third. Junior first baseman Brayden Hatley (St. Louis, Mo.) singled to right field. Schwerdt reached on an infield single, but the Mustangs were able to keep the Hornets from scoring.

 

Henderson reached on an infield single to start the fifth. Junior left fielder Alexander Fernandez (Caracas, Venezuela) walked with one out. The Hornets were unable to score. The Mustangs scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth.

 

Junior outfielder Hayden Waters reached on a one out single in the sixth. Schwerdt singled to right center. The Hornets would load the bases, but were unable to score. 

 

Schwerdt led the way with four hits while Henderson, Waters, Hatley, junior third baseman Andrew Kobe (St. Louis, Mo.) and sophomore catcher Jayden Matthews (Fayetteville, Ark.) all recorded a hit.
