GALESBURG, Ill. - Harris-Stowe State University softball won 11-5 in game one and lost 10-5 in game two at Knox College on Sunday afternoon. With the split, the Lady Hornets are 3-27 on the season while the Prairie Fire are 8-20 on the season.

Game 1:
Junior second baseman Rakiara Bogan (Cape Girardeau, Mo./Mineral Area College) singled to center to start the game. Sophomore catcher Brianna Huff (Columbus, Ohio/Private Tree of Life Christian College Preparatory High School) reached on an infield single. Both Bogan and Huff would advance on a groundout. Junior outfielder Karmen Daniels (St. Louis, Mo./Fontbonne University) popped out to second to score Bogan to make it 1-0 Lady Hornets.

The Prairie Fire would score three runs in the first and two in the third to hold a 5-1 lead after three innings of play.

Senior outfielder Noemi Tudon (Houston, Texas/Waldorf University) singled to left to start the fourth. Freshman infielder Crystal McFerren (St. Louis, Mo./Fort Zumwalt North High School) reached on an error by the third baseman. Senior shortstop Juanesha Washington (St. Louis, Mo./Carnahan High School) reached on an infield single to load the bases. Junior outfielder Zyon Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Lincoln University) singled to right to score Tudon and McFerren to cut the deficit to 5-3. Freshman outfielder Mora Orloff (CDMX, Mexico) grounded out to score Washington. Bogan singled to right to score Williams to tie the game at five.

With the game tied in the seventh, Bogan led off with a walk. Huff tripled home Bogan to give the Lady Hornets a 6-5 lead. Huff scored on a passed ball to make it 7-5. Junior utility player A'Kiayah Scales (St. Louis, Mo./Mineral Area College) doubled to center. Daniels reached on an infield single to move Scales to third. Daniels would steal second. Tudon reached on an infield single to score Scales. McFerren grounded out to score Daniels to extend the lead to 9-5. Williams singled to right to score Tudon. Orloff reached on a dropped third strike that allowed Williams to score to make it 11-5.

Bogan and Huff both had three hits, Tudon and Williams had two apiece and Scales, Daniels, Washington and Orloff had one hit. Williams had two runs batted in while Bogan, Huff, Daniels, Tudon, McFerren and Orloff had one. Sophomore pitcher Jaida Phillips (Saint Ann, Mo./Pattonville High School) would pick up the win tossing a complete game allowing five runs with two being earned runs.

The 11 runs tied a season-high and the 14 hits were the most in a game this season.

Game 2:
Bogan started the game with a single to center. Bogan would steal second. With two outs, Daniels would single to left to score Bogan to make it 1-0. Tudon would single, but the Lady Hornets were unable to push across anymore runs in the first. In the second, Williams would reach on a single. With two outs, Bogan singled home Williams to make it 2-0.

The Prairie Fire scored one run in the second, four in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.

Washington and Williams both reached on singles. Orloff singled home Washington and Williams to cut the deficit to 6-4. Bogan would double to advance Orloff to third. Huff grounded out to score Orloff to cut the deficit to 6-5. The Prairie Fire scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Bogan and Tudon had three hits, Daniels and Williams had two hits and Scales, Washington and Orloff had one hit. Orloff had two runs batted in while Bogan, Huff and Daniels had one.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, April 25th against Lyon College at 1 and 3 pm at Stars Park. Saturday is senior day.
