Hornets Track Finishes Second at AMC Outdoor Championships

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Harris-Stowe State University men's track and field team competed at the American Midwest Conference Outdoor Championship at SIUE in Edwardsville on Wednesday. The Hornets placed second with 114 points which is the most ever at a championship meet.

 

Freshman sprinter Emmanuel Bonsu placed first in the 100-meter semifinals in a time of 10.74. In the finals, Bonsu won the 100 in a personal best time, a school record and AMC Championship meet record time of 10.46 and won the event by 0.60 seconds. Bonsu won the 200-meters in a time of 21.64.

 

Sophomore sprinter Detroit Walker won the 110-meter hurdles in a personal best time and school record of 14.72. Walker finished second in the 400-meter hurdles in a personal best time of 1:03.97.

 

Sophomore thrower Jacobi Green recorded a second place finish in the shot put with a throw of 14.10 (46-3.25). Green recorded a personal best throw of 46.03 meters (151-0) to finish third in the javelin. Green also recorded a personal best throw of 48.49 meters (159-1) to place fourth in the discus.

 

Sophomore jumper Umar Lawson (Sumter, S.C./Voorhees University) won the long jump with a personal best jump and school record of 6.56 meters (21-6.25). Lawson tied for third in the high jump with a height of 1.75 meters (5-8.75). Lawson finished fourth in the triple jump with a personal best jump of 12.04 meters (39-6).

 

Freshman sprinter John Griffin finished second in the 400-meters with a time of 52.31. Griffin finished sixth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:29.14.

 

Junior thrower Sherodd Tate finished sixth in the discus with a personal best throw of 42.49 meters (139-5). Tate finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 35.28 meters (115-9). Tate finished seventh in the hammer throw with a throw of 43.98 meters (144-4). Tate finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 12.87 meters (42-2.75).

 

Freshman thrower Jabbar Granberry finished sixth in the hammer throw with a throw of 44.63 meters (146-5). Granberry was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 13.52 meters (44-4.25). Granberry finished eighth in the discus with a throw of 39.97 meters (131-2).

 

Freshman sprinter Jalen Mcghee finished third in the 400-meter hurdles in a personal best time of 1:04.51.

 

Freshman thrower Aaron Beasley finished fifth in the javelin with a personal best throw of 39.61 (129-11). Beasley recorded a throw of 12.30 meters (40-4.25) in the shot put.

 

Junior sprinter Aidan Smith finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.94.

 

Walker, Bonsu, Griffin and junior sprinter Caleb Carter made up the 4x100 meter relay team that placed third with a time of 43.89.

 

Smith, Carter, Bonsu and Griffin made up the 4x400 meter relay team that finished second in a time of 3:40.83.

 

Bonsu was the Freshman of the Year and the Outstanding Track Athlete.

 

Walker was the Newcomer of the Year.


Bonsu was the Hornets selection to the Champions of Character team which includes one player from each school, selected by their coach and teammates as the individual who best exemplifies the Five Core Values of the NAIA Champions of Character® Initiative – Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, Integrity and Servant Leadership.
