CANTON, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer picked up a 3-1 win on Wednesday night at Culver-Stockton. With the win, the Hornets improve to 2-0 while the Wildcats fall to 

 

Midfielder Beltran Carretero (Olmedo, Spain/Trinity Christian College) had a chance to give the Hornets a lead less than a minute into the game as his shot would be turned away. Senior defender Leonardo El Ayache (Naples, Italy/University of Northwestern Ohio) would be denied a goal by the Wildcats keeper. Midfielder Vitor Biffi (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Lincoln University of Missouri) scored from just outside the box off the assist from Carretero in the 15th minute.

 

The Wildcats would tie the game in the 31st minute. Midfielder Victor Samuel (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio e Curso AZ) would have a chance to give the Hornets a lead just 30 seconds after the Wildcats tied the game. El Ayache would find freshman defender Miller Arm (Hertfordshire, England/Borehamwood Pase Academy) for a header off of a corner that would give the Hornets a 2-1 lead in the 33rd minute. Junior forward Jovan Momic (Belgrade, Serbia/Kansas Wesleyan University), senior forward Chalon Domian (Jackson, Mo./Mineral Area College) and Samuel would all have a chance to extend the lead late in the first half before the Hornets would take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

 

Junior midfielder Dusan Drca (Belgrade, Serbia/Hill Community College) would have his goal denied in the 47th minute. Goalkeeper Miguel Kwiatkowski (Curitiba, Brazil/Seward County CC) would keep it 2-1 with a save in the 54th minute. Domain would be denied in the 56th minute. In the 64th minute Domian would find the back of the night as his goal snuck past the keeper to extend the lead to 3-1. Sophomore midfielder Andrija Miljkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/ETS Rade Koncar) was denied his first goal in the 75th minute. Kwiatkowski kept the Hornets ahead by two with a save in the 81st minute and in the 83rd minute.

 

The Hornets held a 26-5 advantage in shots, 14-4 in shots on goal and 5-3 in corner kicks.

 

The Hornets return to action on Saturday, August 29th at 6 pm against Webster University at Fenton Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo.
