Lady Hornets Fall at Culver-Stockton


CANTON, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's volleyball fell in straight sets (18-25, 23-25, 16-25) on Tuesday night at Culver-Stockton. With the loss, the Lady Hornets are 4-7 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 3-14 on the season.

 

The Wildcats would race out to a 7-2 lead in set one. A kill from senior outside hitter Kyla McReynolds (O'Fallon, Ill./Althoff Catholic High School) cut the deficit to 9-6. A kill from senior outside hitter Alexis Kemp (Kansas City, Mo./University Academy) cut the deficit to 14-8. A kill from senior outside hitter Trinity Edison (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Central High School) cut the deficit to 18-10. An attack error by the Wildcats, a kill from McReynolds, a service ace from sophomore defensive specialist Mya Hendrix (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic High School), an attack error by the Wildcats and a kill from sophomore middle blocker Ayanna-Rae Leblanc (Phoenix, Ariz./South Mountain CC) cut the deficit to 21-15. A kill from McReynolds cut the deficit to 23-16. A kill from Leblanc and a block by junior outside hitter Jordyn Williams (Spokane, Wash./Northern Idaho College) and junior middle hitter Jada Anderson (Jefferson City, Mo./Capital City High School) cut the deficit to 24-18 before the Wildcats took set one 25-18.

A kill from Anderson gave the Lady Hornets an early 2-1 lead in set two. A kill from Leblanc and an attack error by the Wildcats gave the Lady Hornets a 6-5 lead. A block from Williams and Leblanc, an ace from McReynolds and a kill from Kemp extended the lead to 9-6. A 4-1 run by the Wildcats tied the set at 10. A kill from McReynolds and an ace from Williams made it 12-10 Lady Hornets. Back-to-back kills from Edison put the Lady Hornets up 14-13. A kill from Leblanc and a setting error from the Wildcats made it 19-18 Lady Hornets. A 3-0 Wildcats run gave them a 22-21 lead. A kill from Anderson and an attack error gave the Lady Hornets a 23-22 lead before the Wildcats scored the next three points to win set two.

 

A kill from Edison, a Wildcats attack error, a kill from McReynolds, an ace from Hendrix and a kill from Leblanc gave the Lady Hornets a 7-3 lead in set three. A kill from Leblanc extended the lead to 8-5. A 13-2 run by the Wildcats gave them a 19-10 lead. A kill from McReynolds and Leblanc and a Wildcats attack error cut the deficit to 24-16 before the Wildcats took set three 25-16 to take the match.

 

McReynolds led the way with eight kills while Leblanc added seven and Kemp added five. Williams recorded 24 assists in the match. Senior defensive specialist Dejah Foster (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods High School) recorded 11 digs. Hendrix recorded two aces. Williams and Anderson both recorded two block assists.

 

The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, October 3rd at 9 am at Crowley's Ridge and at 12 pm against Columbia with both matches being played at Crowley's Ridge in Paragould, Ark.
