McDowell was hired as the head women's basketball coach at Harris-Stowe State University in the summer of 2019.
In his first season with the Hornets, McDowell led his team to a 8-20Â overall record and 7-17 mark in conference play. Following the conclusion of the season, Destiney Amaefula, Tarsheia Page, Skylar Doby, Surina Finnie, Anjanice Jones, LaDaijha Watson, and Kambri Davison were all named Academic All-Conference. In addition, Takesia Barnes and LaDaijha Watson were both recognized as All-AMC Honorable Mentions.
McDowell came to Harris-Stowe State University after one year of serving as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at fellow American Midwest Conference institution Missouri Baptist University. In his lone season with the Spartans, Seth helped guide the team to an 8-20 overall record and 7-17 mark in the AMC while producing 12 Academic All-Conference recipients and an All-AMC Honorable Mention. He assisted with on floor coaching, recruiting, skill development, post development, opponent scouting, film, travel, and budgeting while at Missouri Baptist.
Prior to his time at Missouri Baptist, McDowell served as the assistant women's basketball coach here at Harris-Stowe during the 2017-18 season. He helped guide the team to a 13-18 overall record and 11-13 mark in conference play. He played a big role in developing post players, breaking down film, and defensive instruction. During his tenure, Alantis Sutton was recognized as an All-AMC Honorable Mention and seven individuals were Academic All-Conference honorees.
In addition to his time in the college ranks, McDowell has served as an assistant varsity boys basketball coach in the Cape Girardeau Public School District, a varsity boys' basketball head coach at Winfield R-IV School District, and a varsity boys' basketball head coach in the Orchard Farm School District. He has also worked as an assistant skills development coach for Pure Sweat Basketball and as a college basketball scout for National Scouting Report.
McDowell played college football at Southeast Missouri State University from 2002 to 2006 and received a Bachelor's of Science in Criminal Justice. He is currently finishing his Master's of Science in Sports Administration at Arkansas State University.
