ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer team was back on the field when they played host the Oakland City (Ind.) University Mighty Oaks in a nonconference matchup. The Hornets were defeated by the Mighty Oaks by a final score of 2-0 to fall to 0-1 on the season. With the win, Oakland City improves to 2-2 on the year.
The Mighty Oaks came out in the first half and controlled the tempo early in the game. They were able to get on the board first just 15 minutes into the contest and held a 1-0 lead midway through the period. The Hornets did their best to equalize before the end of the half but could not find the back of the net as Oakland City took a 1-0 lead into the break.
The Hornets picked it up in the second half and created two scoring chances in the first few minutes of the period. They continued to control the possession and create scoring chances but could not capitalize. The Mighty Oaks were able to get a second goal with 14 minutes left in the game and closed out the Hornets down the stretch to solidify the win.
Nicholas Morales (SO/Bogota, Colombia) (0-1) was in goal for the Hornets as he recorded 10 saves in the contest.
The Hornets will return to the field on Monday, September 28th when they play host to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m. Spectators will not be allowed at the contest but live video and stats will be available.
