ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe men's soccer team was back on the field when they played host to the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Pomeroy's in a nonconference matchup. The Hornets were defeated by the Pomeroy's by a final score of 2-0 to fall to 0-2 on the season. With the win, the Pomeroy's improve to 4-1-1 on the year.
The Hornets came out in the first half and did a great job of possessing the ball. They had several scoring chances but were unable to challenge the Pomeroy's keeper as he was forced to make just one save in the half. Despite not being able to score, the defense for the Hornets stood the test and kept the Pomeroy's out of the back of the net to keep the score tied at zero heading into halftime.
The game remained scoreless for most of the second half as neither team was able to finish their chances through the first 20 minutes of the period. The Pomeroy's got on the board first with just over 22 minutes to play in the game, and then added a penalty kick goal with under seven minutes to play to solidify the win for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
Nicholas Morales (SO/Bogota, Colombia) (0-2) was in goal today for the Hornets as he finished with five saves in the contest.
The Hornets will return to the field on Tuesday, October 6th when they play host to the Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University Trojans in their first AMC game of the season. The match is set to start at 3:00 p.m. Spectators will not be allowed at the game but live stats and live video will be provided.
