HORNETS FALL TO TROJANS IN THREE SETS

HANNIBAL, Mo. – The Harris-Stowe State University volleyball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Hannibal, Missouri, to take on the Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University Trojans in an AMC matchup. The Hornets were swept by the Trojans in three straight sets (6-25, 18-25, 22-25) to fall to 1-6 on the season and 0-5 in the American Midwest Conference. With the win, Hannibal LaGrange improves to 5-9 on the year and 3-4 in the AMC.

Harris-Stowe had a tough time getting anything going through the first two sets as they were held to just nine kills throughout the two games. They had two kills in the first set and an attacking percentage of -0.308 while finishing the second set with seven kills and a -0.057 attacking percentage.

Despite the Trojans starting the third set on a 5-0 run, the Hornets battled back and kept the score close throughout. They were able to cut the score to 23-21 late in the game, but the Trojans picked up the final two points to solidify the sweep. The Hornets finished the set with 11 kills and had an attacking percentage of 0.094.

Dasani Hunt (SO/Norman, Okla.) led the way for the Hornets as she finished with a team high five kills and added seven digs. In addition to Hunt, Dei'Janae Floyd (FR/Tulsa, Okla.) and Kyanae Toombs (JR/Decatur, Ill.) both finished with four kills, Derricka McClatchery (FR/East St. Louis, Ill.) finished with seven digs, and Mallorie Wooten (FR/East St. Louis, Ill.) finished with a team high six assists to round out the top performers for the Hornets.

The Hornets will return to the court tomorrow, November 10th, when they travel down the street to the University of Health Science and Pharmacy for an AMC matchup. The match is set to start at 6 p.m. No visiting team fans will be allowed to attend but live video and stats will be provided.
