HORNETS SWEPT BY SPARTANS

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University volleyball team was back in action when they played host to the Missouri Baptist University Spartans in an AMC matchup. The Hornets, who had not played since October 19th, were swept by the Spartans in three straight sets (11-25, 13-25, 13-25) to fall to 1-5 on the season and 0-4 in the American Midwest Conference. With the win, the Spartans improve to 9-1 on the year and 5-0 in the AMC.

The Hornets had a tough time getting anything going in this match as they were held to just 15 kills on 70 attacks. They picked up three kills in the first set for a -0.143 attacking percentage, seven kills in the second set for a 0.080 attacking percentage, and five kills in the final set for a -0.083 attacking percentage. They recorded 12 assists, 20 digs, and two total blocks. Missouri Baptist finished the match with 36 kills and a 0.406 attacking percentage.

The Hornets were led by Dasani Hunt (SO/Norman, Okla.) who finished with a team high 10 assists and a team high six digs. In addition to Hunt, Dei'Janae Floyd (FR/Tulsa, Okla.) finished with a team high five kills and Jada Brooks (SO/Fairview Heights, Ill. ) finished with three kills to lead the attack for the Hornets. Derricka McClatchery (FR/East St. Louis, Ill.) and Valorie Walker (JR/Houston, Texas) both finished with four digs to round out the top performers for the Hornets.

The Hornets will return to the court on Monday, November 9th when they travel to Hannibal, Missouri, to take on the Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University Trojans in an AMC matchup. The match is set to start at 6 p.m. No spectators will be allowed at the game but live video and stats will be provided.
