Hornets Drop Third Straight

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball team was back in action this evening when they traveled down the street to the University of Health Science and Pharmacy in St. Louis to take on the Eutectics in an AMC matchup. The Hornets were defeated by the Eutectics by a final score of 68-50 to fall to 3-6 on the season and 3-3 in the American Midwest Conference. With the win, the Eutectics improve to 8-5 on the year and 4-4 in the AMC.
 
Harris-Stowe came out in the first quarter and found themselves trailing 12-7 in the first five minutes of the game. They quickly bounced back and were able to tie the score at 12, but an 8-0 run from the Eutectics to end the frame put them up 18-12 heading into the second. The Hornets picked it up to start the second and were able to cut the lead back down to four, but a 4-0 run from the Eutectics put them up eight with just over four minutes to play in the half. The Hornets continued to battle in the closing minutes of the quarter and were able to cut the Eutectics lead to 30-26 at the break.
 
The Hornets came out of the locker room and were able to cut the Eutectics lead to two in the first four minutes of the half. However, the Eutectics answered with a 16-6 run over the final six minutes of the quarter to take a 52-40 lead into the final frame. The Hornets were able to cut the lead back down to single digits in the first couple minutes of the fourth, but another run from the Eutectics to end the game solidified the win.
 
The Hornets went 22-for-58 (37.93%) from the floor and 4-for-18 (22.22%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded 33-32 and turned the ball over 15 times while picking up four steals and four blocks.
 
Surina Finnie led the way for the Hornets as she finished with a season high 20 points to go along with five rebounds. In addition to Finnie, Keanu Cummings finished with a game high 14 rebounds, Maia Marshall finished with 11 points, and Ronne'zje Elliot finished with 10 points to round out the top performers for Harris-Stowe.
 
The Hornets will not have to wait long to get revenge on the Eutectics as they play host to the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis on Saturday, January 30th at 1 p.m. No spectators will be allowed at the game but live stats and video will be provided.
