ST. LOUIS – The Harris-Stowe men's basketball team opened conference play against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy, falling 62-58.
The Hornets entered the contest determined and it showed.
Jonathan Burns rolled a layup from his fingertips on a fastbreak to start scoring for the contest. A turnover by UHSP allowed
Antwan Campbell to nail a layup of his own. At the 14:17 mark of the first, the Hornets had a seven-point lead (13-6). The first half was action packed, however, Harris-Stowe was able to maintain their lead entering halftime, 31-25.
Exiting the locker room, the Hornets were able to extend their lead to nine points. A run by UHSP tied the contest at 34-34 with 15:44 remaining on the clock. A three-pointer by Jamar Joseph broke the tie in Harris-Stowe's favor. With a little back and forth, the game was tied at 41 with 13:21 remaining. The 5:57 mark saw the game knotted at 48. With 4:30 remaining, the score was once again tied – with both teams tallying 50-points.
Tabais Long knocked down a three-pointer to increase HSSU's lead to five-points. The final minutes of the contest saw the Euts go to free throw line to clinch the victory.
Antwan Campbell paced the Hornets with 17-points, three rebounds and one block, while
Riley Barnes added 10-points, six rebounds and one assist.
The University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy was paced by RJ Wright and Dwight Newsome. Both tallied 13 points to lift the Euts to victory.
Harris-Stowe will host the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University on Saturday, December 4
th at 3:00 pm.
