ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer team was back in action when they played host to the Lincoln Christian (Ill.) University Red Lions in a nonconference matchup. The Hornets were able to defeat the Red Lions by a final score of 4-0 to improve to 1-3 on the season. With the loss, the Red Lions fall to 2-5 on the year.
The Hornets came out and controlled possession for most of the first half. They were able to get on the board first just 14 minutes into the game when
Justin Donovan was able to finish off a pass from
Anthony Medina for his first goal of the season. Harris-Stowe picked up their second goal of the game just 15 minutes later when
Anthony Medina found
Damani Henderson who was able to beat the Red Lions keeper for his first goal of the year to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead at the half.
Harris-Stowe continued to play well to start the second half and were able to pick up a third goal with 30 minutes left to play in the game when Medina found
Umberto Catale in the box for his first tally of the year. The Hornets were not done yet as
Victor Aguilar played a ball over the top to
Anthony Medina who was able to slip the ball past the Red Lions keeper to put the Hornets up 4-0 with 15 minutes to play in the contest. The Red Lions had a tough time keeping possession down the final stretch and the Hornets cruised to their first win of the season.
Diego Torres (1-0) was in goal tonight for the Hornets as he recorded his first shutout of the season while making two saves on the night.
The Hornets will return to the pitch on Saturday, February 27
th when they play host to the William Woods (Mo.) University Owls at St. Mary's High School. The game is set to start at 3:30 p.m. No Spectators will be allowed to attend but live stats and video will be provided.
