Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hornets Fall to Spartans 4-1

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Tonight the Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer team was back on the field when they traveled to Missouri Baptist University to take on the Spartans in an AMC matchup. The Hornets were defeated by the Spartans by a final score of 4-1 to fall to 1-4 on the year and 0-2 in the American Midwest Conference. With the win, the Spartans improve to 9-4 on the season and 6-2 in the AMC.

It did not take the Spartans long to get on the board in this one as they scored 10 minutes into the game to give themselves a 1-0 lead. They continued to apply pressure and were able to score two goals in the next 14 minutes to increase their lead to 3-0. The Hornets bounced back and were able to earn a penalty kick with just under 20 minutes to play in the period. Ricardo Benini took the penalty for the Hornets and was able to find the back of the net for his first goal of the season to cut the lead to 3-1 at the break.

In the second half of the game, the Spartans controlled the possession for most of the period. However, the Hornets were able to keep them out of the back of the net as the score remained 3-1 for a majority of the half. The Spartans were able to score a goal late in the game and closed out the Hornets down the stretch to solidify the win.

Nicholas Morales (0-4) was in goal for the Hornets tonight and recorded five saves in the game.

The Hornets will return to the field on Tuesday, March 30th when they play host to the William Woods (Mo.) University Owls in an AMC matchup. The game is set to kick off at 1 p.m. on Hornets Field.
