Hornets Swept By Owls

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Harris-Stowe State University volleyball team was back in action when they played host to the William Woods (Mo.) University Owls in an AMC matchup. The Hornets were swept by the Owls in three straight sets (14-25, 8-25, 10-25) to fall to 1-8 on the year and 0-7 in the American Midwest Conference. With the win, the Owls improve to 5-2 on the season and 5-0 in the AMC.

The Hornets came out in the first set of the match and jumped out to an early 6-3 lead. The Owls battled back and were able to score the next eight points to take an 11-6 lead in the game. Harris-Stowe picked it up as the game progressed and were able to tie the score at 12 midway through the set. However, the Owls ends on a 13-2 run to solidify the first game of the match.

The Owls carried over their momentum into the second game and were able to jump out to a 14-2 lead in the set. Harris-Stowe struggled to get anything going as the game progressed and the Owls cruised to a 25-8 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set was similar to the second as the Owls jumped out to a 13-3 lead early in the game. The Hornets bounced back and cut the lead to nine, but another run from the Owls put them up 21-7 late in the game. Harris-Stowe did their best to get back in the game but the damage had been done as the Owls picked up the final points to solidify the three game sweep.

Harris-Stowe had a tough time getting their attack going in this one as they were held to just 11 kills in the match. Ariel Stroud led the way for the Hornets as she finished with four kills in the game. in addition, Valorie Walker finished with five assists and Jada Brooks finished with six digs to round out the top performers for the Hornets.

The Hornets will return to the court on Saturday, March 27th when they play host to the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis. No spectators will be allowed at this game but live stats and video will be provided. The match is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
