ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University women's volleyball team was back in action when they played host to the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in an AMC matchup. The Hornets were defeated in three straight sets (16-25, 20-25, 13-25) to fall to 1-9 on the season and 1-8 in the American Midwest Conference. With the win, the Scots improve to 8-11 on the season and 3-4 in the AMC.
In the first set of the match, Harris-Stowe came out and took an early 7-4 lead. The Scots settled in as the game progressed and were able to go on a 6-1 run to take a 10-8 advantage. The Scots continued to play well down the stretch and never let the Hornets back in the game as they cruised to a 25-16 win to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second game of the match, neither side was able to gain an advantage early. With the Hornets leading 12-11, the Scots went on a 9-2 run to take a 20-14 lead late in the game. The Hornets answered by scoring the next three points, but the Scots were able to close them out to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third game, the Scots jumped out to an early 7-5 lead. The Hornets stuck with the Scots for most of the game but a 7-2 run midway through the set put them up 16-10. Harris-Stowe did their best to get back into the game but were unable to catch up the Scots as Lyon was able to solidify the three game sweep.
The Hornets recorded 30 kills in the match with a 0.019 attacking percentage.
Jada Brooks led the way for the Hornets as she finished with a game high 10 kills. In addition to Brooks,
Valorie Walker finished with a team high 11 assists and
Junoria Worthy finished with a game high 13 digs to round out the top performers for Harris-Stowe.
The Hornets will return to the court on Tuesday, March 30
th when they travel to Columbia, Missouri, to take on the Stephens (Mo.) College Stars in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. No spectators will be allowed to attend this match.
