ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer team was back in action when they played host to the William Woods (Mo.) University Owls in an AMC matchup. The game ended in a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes of soccer. With the tie, Harris-Stowe improves their record to 1-4-1 on the regular season and 0-1-1 in the American Midwest Conference. William Woods improves to 3-3-1 on the year and 1-2-1 in the AMC.
Harris-Stowe came out in the first half of the game and dominated the possession early. They moved the ball well and were able to create several scoring chances. However, the Owls keeper made two remarkable saves in the half to keep the Hornets out of the back of the net as the game remained scoreless at the break.
William Woods came out in the second half and immediately hit the crossbar just 40 seconds into the frame. The Hornets settled in as the half progressed and once again controlled the possession for most of the period. They played tough defense and kept the Owls out of the back of the net to send the game to overtime.
Harris-Stowe had several chances to score in overtime but were unable to convert any of their chances as the score remained 0-0 through the 20 minutes of extra time.
Nicholas Morales (0-4-1) was in goal tonight for the Hornets as he made five saves in his first shutout of the season.
The Hornets will return to the field on Friday, April 2
nd when they travel to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in an AMC matchup. The game is set to kick off at 11:30 a.m. No visiting team spectators will be allowed to attend but live stats and video will be provided.
