ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University volleyball team was back in action when they traveled down the street to the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis to take on the Eutectics in a nonconference matchup. The Hornets were defeated in three straight sets (14-25, 8-25, 12-25) to fall to 1-11 on the season. With the win, the Eutectics improve to 14-11 on the year.
In the first set of the match, the Hornets came out and found themselves trailing 8-4 early in the game. They picked it up as the set progressed and were able to cut the lead to 12-11 midway through the set. However, the Eutectics ended the set on a 13-3 run to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Eutectics carried over their momentum into the second set and were able to jump out to a quick 6-1 lead. The Hornets struggled to get anything going and found themselves trailing 15-5 midway through the game. The Eutectics ended the game on a 10-3 run and took a 2-0 lead into the third set of the match.
The Hornets came out in the third set and went toe-to-toe with the Eutectics to start the game. However, with the score tied at six the Eutectics went on an 8-0 run to take a 14-6 lead in the set. Harris-Stowe did their best to get back into the game but the Eutectics picked up the final points of the set to complete the three game sweep.
The Hornets finished the match with 15 kills and a -0.022 attacking percentage. They were led by
Junoria Worthy who finished with a team high 11 digs.
Ariel Stroud led the attack for the Hornets as she finished with a team high four kills. In addition,
Mallorie Wooten and
Valorie Walker each recorded six assists, and
Nyah Parker added nine digs to round out the top performers for the Hornets.
The Hornets will return to the court tomorrow, April 1
st when they travel to Missouri Baptist University to take on the Spartans in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 4 p.m. No visiting team spectators will be allowed at this game.
