ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University softball team was back in action when they played host to the Missouri Baptist University Spartans in an AMC doubleheader. The Hornets lost both games of the doubleheader as they lost the first game by a final score of 30-0 and the second game by a final score of 22-0 to fall to 0-5 on the season. With the sweep, the Spartans improve to 5-5 on the year.
Harris-Stowe had a tough time getting anything going in the first game as they were held to just two hits in the contest. The Spartans scored 11 runs in the first, 11 runs in the second, four runs in the third, and four runs in the fifth to solidify the win.
Brandi Bradford (0-4) was the starter in this one as she allowed 17 hits while striking out three in 4.0 innings.
Zaria Palmer came in to relieve Bradford as she allowed two hits while striking out one in the final inning of the game.
Anna Wheeler and
Kyrah Greer recorded the hits for the Hornets.
Harris-Stowe continued to struggle offensively in the second game as they did not record a hit in the contest. The Spartans scored three runs in the first, four runs in the second, five runs in the third, and 10 runs in the fourth to solidify the sweep.
Brandi Bradford (0-5) also got the start in this one as she allowed 19 hits while striking out one in 4.0 innings of work.
Zaria Palmer came in to relieve Bradford as she allowed two hits in the final inning of the game.
The Hornets will return to the field tomorrow, April 3
rd when they travel to Hannibal, Missouri, to take on the Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University Trojans in an AMC doubleheader. The doubleheader is set to start at noon.
