ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Harris-Stowe State University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in the first two games of a four game set. The Hornets split the doubleheader with the Scots as they won the first game by a final score of 13-2 and lost the second game by a final score of 12-1 to improve to 9-16 on the season and 5-9 in the American Midwest Conference. With the split, the Scots improve to 16-20 on the year.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Hornets put together 10 hits in the win. They came out and scored three runs in the bottom of the first and one run in the bottom of the second to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. The Scots bounced back and scored a run in the top of the fourth, but three runs from the Hornets in the bottom half of in the inning put them up 7-1 in the contest. The Scots once again responded by scoring a run in the top of the fifth, but six runs from the Hornets in the bottom of the sixth solidified the win.
Dajuan Griffin (1-3) got the start in this one as he allowed six hits and two earned runs while striking out seven in his first complete game of the season.
Maurice La Fon led the way at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. In addition,
Will Crooker went 1-for-4 with a three run homerun,
Will Menendez went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Deven Radar went 1-for-1 with two RBI to round out the top performers for the Hornets.
The Hornets struggled to get anything going in the second game as they were held to just three hits in the contest. The Scots scored one run in the first, five runs in the second, two runs in the sixth, and four runs in the ninth to jump out to a 12-0 lead. The Hornets bounced back and scored a run in the bottom of the ninth but that was as close as they would get as the Scots picked up the final outs to solidify the win.
Armando Sierra (2-3) was the starter in this one as he allowed seven hits and four earned runs while striking out three in 2.0 innings on the mound.
Alek Sierra led the way at the plate as he went 2-for-2 in the game.
Quintaryis Bournes picked up the only RBI for the Hornets.

rd when they host Lyon (Ark.) College in the final two games of a four game set. The first game is set to start at noon with the second to follow at Carshield Field in O'Fallon, Missouri.
