Hornets Shutout Against Griffins

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University baseball team was back on the diamond when they traveled down the street to Fontbonne (Mo.) University to take on the Griffins in a nonconference matchup. The Hornets were defeated by the Griffins by a final score of 19-0 to fall to 8-15 on the season. With the win, the Griffins improve to 11-7 on the year.

The Hornets had a tough time getting anything going offensively in this game as they recorded just four hits in the contest. The Griffins got off to a fast start in this one as they scored one run in the bottom of the first and five runs in the bottom of the second to jump out to an early 6-0 lead. The Griffins continued to put the ball in play over the next few innings and were able to score nine runs in the bottom of the fifth and four runs in the bottom of the sixth while keeping the Hornets off the board to solidify the win.

Tomas Pinet Jr. (0-2) was the starting pitcher in this one as he allowed five hits and six earned runs while striking out one in 1.2 innings. Tommy Benner, Preston Burnett, Brian Myers, Matt Gilbers, and Jacob Gonzalez came in to relieve Pinet Jr., as the five combined to allow 12 hits and four earned runs while striking out one in the final 4.1 innings of the contest. Alek Sierra, Alex Williams, Jackson Bartholomew, and Luke Lampros all recorded hits for the Hornets.

The Hornets will return to the field on Friday, April 9th when they host the William Woods (Mo.) University Owls in an AMC doubleheader. The first game of the doubleheader is set to start at 1 p.m. with the second game to follow. Spectators will be limited to guests on the baseball teams pass list.
