OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer team was back in action yesterday afternoon when they traveled to Oakland City, Indiana, to take on the Oakland City (Ind.) University Mighty Oaks in a nonconference matchup. The Hornets were defeated in overtime by the Mighty Oaks by a final score of 2-1 to fall to 1-1-0 on the season.
The Hornets came out in the first half and applied pressure to the Mighty Oaks from the opening kick. They created two corner kick opportunities in the first six minutes of the game and created several scoring chances throughout the half. However, they were unable to find the back of the net as the score remained tied 0-0 at the break.
The Hornets continued to apply the pressure in the second half and were able to get on the board 16 minutes into the period.
Umberto Catale had the goal for the Hornets as he was able to finish off a rebound for his first tally of the season. Despite being down, the Mighty Oaks picked up the tempo and were able to score a goal in the final minute of the game to tie the score at one and send it to overtime.
It did not take long for the Mighty Oaks to score in overtime as they were able to find the back of the net just two minutes in to solidify the win.
Joshua Precious (0-1-0) was the starting keeper in this one as he recorded four saves in the contest.
The men's soccer team will return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 1
st when they play host to the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers in a nonconference game. The game is set to kick off at 1 p.m. on Hornet Field.
