ST. LOUIS – The Hornets volleyball team were able to go the distance against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy for the second time this season, winning the contest 3-2.
Breakdown per set: 25-7, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23, 16-14
The opening set was heavily in favor of the Euts and it appeared the match would follow the same pattern. In the second set when the Hornets went down 23-18, it was time to dig deep because they did not want to go down 2-0. In a stunning display of athletic ability and unwavering determination, Harris-Stowe surged back, scoring seven unanswered points to take the set.
In the third set, UHSP appeared to have the slight advantage as they were able to go up 2-1, with their 25-21 win. Down but far from out, Harris-Stowe showed true grit as they took the fourth set 25-23 and the match with a 16-14 win in the fifth.
Two Hornets recorded double-digit kills to aid in the win. A'nyla Watson (19) Ariyonna Johnson (15) and Jayden Sortor (9) led HSSU in kills. Mallorie Wooten paced the team in aces with three. Nyah Parker added two and Nickeal Clark contributed one.
Queen Patterson tallied four blocks for the Hornets, while Sortor added two and Johnson one. A'Nia Ware was on fire recording 49 assists and Clark finished with 21 digs. Makayla Hernandez (12) and Ware (10) also contributed to the Hornets digs.
