JACKSON, TENN. – Softball opened the season with a three-game series at Lane College. It was a tough opening weekend, as the team dropped the contests: 15-1, 16-1 and 25-3.
Game One: In the opening inning, the Hornets relinquished three runs, one in the second and nine in the third. In the top of the fourth, Harris-Stowe scored their solo run in the top of the inning when AJ Howard scored on a wild pitch. Lane scored two in the bottom of the fourth to wrap scoring for the contest. The game ended in five innings.  
Game Two: In the second contest of the doubleheader, the Hornets struck first with one run in the top of the first. AJ Howard scored on a single to second base by 
Sarah Talbott. In the bottom of the first, the Lady Dragons knotted the game at 1-all. The second inning, Lane exploded with eight runs and seven in the bottom of the third. Like game one, the contest ended in five innings.
Game Three: In the rubber match, the Hornets were unable to contain the Lady Dragons' scoring, leading to another five-inning contest. In the first inning, Lane scored two and seven in the second. Harris-Stowe scored two runs in the top of the third when 
Sarah Talbott and 
Zaria Palmer scored. Lane scored eight in the third and fourth innings. The Hornets wrapped up scoring with one run in the top of the fifth. Palmer scored her second run on a single by 
Caitlyn Chandler.
Harris-Stowe will compete in the HBCU Round Robin, starting on February 18
th. Their first game will be at 2:00 pm against the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
