Volleyball Falters on Day Two

LITTLE ROCK – On day two of the Panthers Classic the Hornets fell to Southwest Christian 3-1 before dropping their final contest 3-2 against Williams Baptist.

Game v. Southwestern Christian: 25-21, 25-20, 25-22, 27-25

Despite falling 3-1, the statistical line tells a different tale. In a side-by-side comparison, the Hornets were not far from Southwestern Christian. In points, it was 69.0 for HSSU and 67.0 for SCC. In kills, SCC accumulated 50 to the Hornets 43. Harris-Stowe took the service aces and blocks categories, 18-14 and 8-3, respectively. In assists, HSSU tallied 40 while Southwestern Christian totaled 44 and digs were knotted at 41 each.

Ariyonna Johnson paced the Hornets with 10 kills, six aces and five digs. Ariel Stroud and Jayden Sortor both added nine kills each. A'Nia Ware and A'Nyla Watson each landed three service aces. Ware also led the team in assists with 33.

Game against Williams Baptist: 25-16, 25-23, 25-12, 25-22, 16-14

This content served as a chance for the Hornets to flex and grow. Williams Baptist and Harris-Stowe are both members of the American Midwest Conference, therefore they will see each other again this season.

Looking into the side-by-side comparison, the Hornets were dominant in their game. Pointwise, Harris-Stowe outpaced Williams Baptist 78.0-56.0 and 61-40 in kills. Aces, the Hornets landed 11-10. Blocks were dead even at six. In assists and digs, HSSU toppled WBU 59-40 and 49-44, respectively.

A'Nyla Watson led two categories, kills and aces with a total of 14 and four. Ariyonna Johnson added 12 kills and Ariel Stroud rounded out the leaders in the category with 11. Jayden Sortor and Mallorie Wooten each added two aces. Sortor led blocks with 3.0, while A'Nia Ware and A'Nyla Watson each tallied 2.0. Ware also added 52 assists and 12 digs.
