ST. LOUIS – In their home contest against the Eagles of Williams Baptist University, the Hornets women's basketball team were unable to close out the contest, dropping it 74-62.
The first quarter ended knotted at 16 and the second gave WBU the advantage going into halftime, as the Eagles edged past HSSU 24-20. The third quarter concluded in favor of the Hornets, 21-18; while the Eagles flew away with the final period, 16-5.
Samara Swire led the team in points with 17, Destiney Amaefula added 14 and Autumn Brown contributed 13. Taia Smith had a phenomenal game, scoring 14-points, 10 rebounds, one block and one steal. Amaefula also pulled down nine rebounds for the Hornets. Kya Gordon also dominated with nine rebounds.
Tristan Richards paced the Eagles with 17-points.
Harris-Stowe will return to action on Saturday, February 4th at 1:00 pm, when the team hosts the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in the Emerson Performance Center.
