Tough Day for Hornets in Walnut Ridge

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – In an American Midwest Conference series slated to be played on Friday and Saturday, the Hornets and Eagles moved the contests up a day due to weather forecasts for the weekend. It was a difficult day for the Hornets as they fell 10-1 in Game One and 5-4 in Game Two.

Game One:

The first two innings were scoreless for both teams before Williams Baptist was able to land two tins in the second, six in the fifth and their final two in the sixth. Jordan Palacios' homer was the lone run for the Hornets in the top of the seventh.

HSSU finished with one run on three hits and three errors.

Armando Sierra took the loss for the Hornets on the mound.

Game Two:

The second game was more intense as the Eagle edged past the Hornets 5-4. Williams Baptist started scoring in the bottom of the first, with two runs. The second was scoreless by both teams. In the third, HSSU scored one run when Julian Cintel scored on a wild pitch. WBU scored three in the bottom of the inning (third).

The Hornets scored another run in the top of the fourth when Jordan Palacios nailed a homer. The fifth, sixth and seventh were scoreless. In the eighth, Palacios singled to second to score Robbie Gerber. It was in the top of the ninth, Gerber singled to left field to score Alex Rodriguez.

HSSU finished with four runs on nine hits and two errors.

Tommy Benner received the lose for the Hornets on the mound.

The two teams will meet for the rubber match on March 31st. A time has not been announced at this time.
