ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer picked up a 1-0 at Hornets Field on Tuesday afternoon against Hannibal-LaGrange University. With the win, the Hornets improve to 4-5-4 on the season and 2-2 in American Midwest Conference play while the Trojans fall to 5-5-2 and 1-3 in AMC play.
The Hornets would control the first half creating numerous chances to score off of set pieces. Sophomore defender
Leonardo El Ayache (Naples, Italy/University of Northwestern Ohio) and junior midfielder
Leonardo Mori (Castel d'Azzano, Italy/Liceo Galileo Galilei) would record the two best chances in the first half but were denied a goal by the Trojans keeper.
It was more of the same for the Hornets to start the second half and after the Hornets earned one of their six corner kicks in the second half it would find the foot of junior forward
Max Kannegieser (Bad Ems, Germany/Goethe-Gymnasium Bad Ems) would then find the foot of freshman defender
Nicholas Wingren (Palma, Mallorca, Spain/IES s'Arenal) for the goal in the 56th minute to put the Hornets up 1-0.
The Hornets would stave off the attack from the Trojans and create more chances to add on to the lead. With the Hornets still up 1-0 junior goalkeeper
Michael Brennan (Manchester, England/Neosho County Community College) would make a huge save in the 89th minute to keep the Hornets in front/
The Hornets would hold a 21-6 advantage in shots. All six of the Trojans shots came in the second half. The Hornets also held a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal and 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Hornets return to action on Friday, October 18th at 6 pm at Mission University in Springfield, Mo. and look to win their third consecutive match.
