Hornets Soccer Scores Season High 8 Goals in Win Against UHSP

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's soccer would score a season-high in goals en route to picking up an 8-1 win on Tuesday morning against the University of Health Sciencs & Pharmacy at SLU High. With the win, the Hornets improve to 6-6-5 on the season and 4-3-1 in American Midwest Conference play while the Eutectics fall to 1-13 on the season and 1-6 in AMC play.

The Hornets created mulitple scoring opportunities early in the match. After earning a throw in deep in the Eutectics half`junior forward Tim Groenenberg (Koblenz, Germany/University of South Carolina Union) would throw it into the box and would find the left foot of junior midfielder Leonardo Mori (Castel d'Azzano/Liceo Galileo Galilei) who would turn and fire it into the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead in the 12th. In the 14th minute, after a Eutectics turnover Mori would deliver a through ball to senior forward Janik Buch (Suederbrarup, Germany) who would find the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season.

In the 20th minute, Buch would deliver a pass to junior midfielder Matteo Rissato Prado (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Carl Sandburg College) who would score from just outside the 18 yard box to the give the Hornets a 3-0. After a handball in the box by a Eutectics player sophomore midfielder Djordje Stankovic (Belgrade, Serbia/Bethel University) would step up and bury the penalty for his first goal of the season to make it 4-0 in the 23rd minute. After a header into the box from freshman defender Nicholas Wingren (Palma, Mallorca, Spain/IES s'Arenal) would find the head of senior defender Callahan Riley (Liverpool, England/Union College) for the fifth goal of the half and the first goal for Riley this season. The Hornets would take a 5-0 lead into the half.

In the 52nd minute, Groenenberg would take the free kick and it would find the foot of freshman defender Antonio del Pedregal (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Las Condes) for his first collegiate goal on his first shot. In the 81st minute, sophomore forward Adefolarin Adigun (Colchester, England/Moulsham High School) would deliver a lead pass to junior forward Max Kannegeiser (Bad Ems, Germany/Goethe-Gymnasium Bad Ems) who would chip it over the keeper to give the Hornets a 7-0 lead. Kannegeiser would find senior defender Miguel Cirulli (Campinas, Sao Paulo/Colegio Objetivo) to slide it past the keeper to make it 8-0 in the 88th minute. The Eutectis would score in the 90th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Louis Noisiez (Vred, France/Insitut d'Anchin) gets the win in net while junior goalkeeper Kazuyuki Matsumoto (Sanda, Japan/St. Charles Community College) would record two saves in the match.

The Hornets would hold a 24-5 advantage in shots, a 13-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Hornets return to action on Wednesday, November 6th in the AMC tournament quarterfinal. The time, location and opponent is to be determined.
