PARAGOULD, Ark. - Harris-Stowe State University women's volleyball fell in four sets (13-25,25-20,23-25,24-26) on Friday night at Crowley's Ridge College. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 4-21 on the season and 0-9 in American Midwest Conference play while the Pioneers improve to 7-13 on the season and3-5 in AMC play.
In set one, the Pioneers would take an 14-4 lead. The Pioneers would go on to win set one 25-13.Â
In set two, after back-to-back kills from freshman middle hitter
Jehireh Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Althoff Catholic) and a kill from sophomore outside hitter
Dejah Foster (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) the Lady Hornets would lead 7-3. A 4-0 run by the Pioneers would tie the set at seven. A 6-4 run by the Pioneers would put them ahead 13-11. After a kill by senior middle hitter
Jayden Sortor (Sherman, Ill./Parkland College) cut the lead to 13-12 which would be the first point in a 8-3 run by the Lady Hornets to go up 19-13 and force a Pioneers timeout. The Lady Hornets would go on to win set two 25-20.
After a block by Williams and sophomore middle hitter
Saniah Files (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West), a kill by Files, Williams and Sortor would have the Lady Hornets up 9-7 in set three. After a kill by junior outside hitter
A'nyla Watson (Little Rock, Ark./North Little Rock) would put the Lady Hornets up 16-12. The Pioneers would close set three on a 13-7 run to go up two sets to one.
The Lady Hornets would hold a 9-4 lead in set four. A 9-3 run by the Pioneers would give them the lead at 13-12. After a block by Williams and Files to put the Lady Hornets up 19-17 the Pioneers would close out on a 9-5 run.
Sortor would record a season-high 15 kills, sophomore setter
Isa Smith (Little Rock, Ark./Joe T. Robinson) would match a season-high in assists with 24 while freshman setter
Jayla Payne (San Antonio, Texas/Wagner) would record a career-high 15 assists. Sophomore outside hitter
Kyla McReynolds (O'Fallon, Ill./Althoff Catholic) would record 19 digs.
The Lady Hornets conclude their Arkansas trip on Saturday, November 2nd at 12 pm in Walnut Ridge, Ark. against Williams Baptist University.
