Men's Basketball Picks Up Hard Fought Home Win Over Simmons College

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball picked up a 73-67 win over Simmons College (Ky.) at Emerson Performance Center on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Hornets improve to 1-2 on the season while the Falcons fall to 0-2 on the season.

A jumper from junior forward Ty Lampley (Belleville, Ill./Rend Lake Community College) would put the Hornets up 6-5 would start a 12-0 run for the Hornets that saw them go from down 5-4 to up 16-5. The run featured back-to-back field goals from junior forward Jalen Watson (East St. Louis, Ill./St. Louis Community College) and a three from senior guard Bennie Amos III (New Orleans, La./Delgado Community College) and senior guard Freddy Reeves Jr. (Minneapolis, Mn./Chardon State University). 

After another three from Amos III and from senior guard Seth Chargois (Tulsa, Okla./Johnson Community College) would have the Hornets up 22-9. Another three from Chargois would put the Hornets up 25-11. The Falcons would go on a 25-8 run to close the first half and go into the half up 36-33 over the Hornets.

A jumper from Amos III would cut the Falcons lead to 40-37 early in the second half. After two free throws from Watson, a jumper from Amos III and a three from senior forward Jermarco Burse (Annapolis, Mo./Truman State University) would cut the Falcons lead to 46-44. After a three from Amos III and Lampley the game would be tied at 50.

Over the final five minutes the Falcons and Hornets would trade field goals. A three from Burse would put the Hornets up 69-67 with 1:31 left in the game. Amos III would hit two free throws and Reeves Jr. would add a late field goal to give the Hornets the win.

Amos III would record 25 points in the win. Watson would record a double-double going for 15 points and 10 rebounds (five offensive). The Hornets would go 25-64 (39.1 percent) from the field 9-19 (47.4 percent) from three and 14-15 (93.3 percent) at the free throw line.

The Hornets are back in action on Tuesday, November 5th at Bethel University (Tenn.) at 7 pm.
