McKENZIE, Tenn. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball falls 81-73 to Bethel University on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 1-3 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 1-0.
After senior forward
Jermarco Burse (Annapolis, Mo./Truman State University) would hit back-to-back threes the Hornets led 6-5 three minutes into the game. After tying the game at nine a jumper from Burse, a three from senior guard
Bennie Amos III (New Orleans, La./Delgado Community College), a three from junior forward
Jalen Watson (East St. Louis, Ill./St. Louis Community College) and free throws from senior guard
Freddy Reeves Jr. (Minneapolis, Mn./Chardon State University) would cap a 10-5 run to put the Hornets up 19-16. The Wildcats would go on a 12-0 run before a three from senior guard
Seth Chargois (Tulsa, Okla./Johnson Community College) would cut the deficit to 28-22. A three from Amos III and a layup from Reeves Jr. would cut the lead to 33-27 Wilcats.Â
After a three point play from junior forward
Koran Johnson (St. Louis, Mo.) would cut the Wildcats lead to 35-30. The Hornets would close out the first half on a 7-4 run to take a 39-38 lead into the halftime break.
Over the first four minutes in the second half the lead would change hand seven times and the Wildcats would hold a 46-45 lead with 16 minutes remaining. After Watson would make two free throws to tie the game at 52 the Wildcats would go on a 12-2 run to go up 64-54 before a three from Chargois to cut it to 64-57. A layup from Amos III would cut it to 66-60. The Wildcats would close out the game by scoring 15 of the final 28 points to win 81-73.
Chargois went for a team-high 17points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Amos III led the team with four assists and three steals. The Hornets went 23-65 (35.4 percent) from the field, 8-26 (30.8 percent) from three and 19-28 (67.9 percent) at the free throw line.
The Hornets are back in action on Saturday, November 9th at 3 pm in the rematch against Simmons College in Louisville, Ky.
