Women's Basketball Falls on Road to Crowley's Ridge

PARAGOULD, Ark. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball fell 83-65 on Saturday afternoon to Crowley's Ridge College. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 1-4 on the season and 0-2 in American Midwest Conference play while the Pioneers improve to 5-1 on the season and 1-1 in AMC play.

Senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) would give the Lady Hornets an early lead before the Pioneers would score four quick points to go up 4-2. After a layup from freshman forward Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) would tie the game at four, the Pioneers would go 10-0 run before a three from senior guard Samara Swire (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) would cut the deficit to 14-7. Swire would make a jump shot and would get fouled and convert at the free throw line to cut the Pioneers lead to 14-10 after she scored six straight points. A layup from junior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) would cut the deficit to 14-12. After senior forward Toree Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) would make two free throws to tie the game at 16 the Lady Hornets would go on a 9-5 run to close the quarter.

A layup from freshman guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) would give the Lady Hornets a 29-25 lead with 7:57 left in the first half. The Pioneers would use a 7-0 run to take a 32-29 lead. Layups from Jackson, Dilosa and Davis would put the Lady Hornets up 35-32. The Lady Hornets would take a 37-36 lead into halftime.

Dilosa would start the third quarter with a 6-0 run to push the lead to 43-36 before a 4-0 Pioneers run to cut the lead to 43-40. After layups from Jordan and senior guard Lauryn Evans (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) would put the Lady Hornets up 47-42. A three point play from Dilosa would put the Lady Hornets on top 50-48 with 3:39 remaining in the third quarter. A layup by Jordan would give the Lady Hornets the a 55-53 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Jordan would tie the game at 59 with a jumper. Dilosa would cut the Pioneers lead to 63-62. Davis would make a jumper to cut the deficit to 69-65 before the Pioneers would close out the game on a 14-0 run to pick up the 83-65 win.

Dilosa led the way with 21 points while Swire added 12 and Jackson added 10. Jackson recorded a game-high 14 rebounds in the game. Swire, Jordan and Davis each recorded three assists. Jordan added three blocks. Davis and Jordan both added two steals apiece.

The Lady Hornets went 27-72 (37.5%) from the field, 3-22 (13.6%) from three and 8-13 (61.5%) at the free throw line.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Thursday, December 5th at 5:30 pm as they will begin their home schedule against AMC opponent Hannibal-LaGrange at Emerson Performance Center.
